Christmas is a comin'

The day after Halloween I told the kids that they can expect to see Christmas lights any time now. People are crazy. And what our neighbourhood lacks in Halloween spirit they more than make up for in Christmas cheer. Sure enough... TWO DAYS after Halloween while driving home from swimming lessons we saw someone hanging Christmas lights.. all lit up & ready to rock. "CHRISTMAS LIGHTS!!" Who knew they could be so exciting?

Since then the lights have been illuminated by the hundreds (okay maybe by the twenties or fifties but that doesn't sound right). Decorations abound. There is an apartment balcony that is so overflowing with decor I can't imagine what their hydro bill is like this time of year. I really should try and take a picture. Perhaps this year I will go for a drive with the kids in search of the most elaborate decorations and post pictures. The kids would love that. Anyhoo.... The real start of Christmas isn't when the lights come out or the commercials start.. or when the stores pack in the accessories. It's when the Santa Claus parade rolls into town.

This marks our 5th (I think) year attending the Prescott Santa Claus parade. It's fabulous. It's at night, which is when every Christmas parade should be. What's the point of Christmas lights in broad daylight? Exactly. And participants throw a TON of candy into the crowd, so just when you think you're over the Halloween buzz you're kids get another shot of sugar. Yes! Cotton candy too. Yum. It's at least an hour long and FULL of spirit. Definitely worth freezing your ass off for, because apparently after 5 years I still haven't learned how to dress appropriately.

I took the photos with my iPhone.. so bear with them. And this year, the kids were so excited that their enthusiasm got them on the front page of Brockville's paper!! Yay team!
