TRICK or TREAT!

We had another amazing Halloween in the country all thanks to the Purvis family and their wonderful hayride. It was even better this year because A) Sam & J knew more kids on the wagon this year as Sam plays hockey with a few of them, and B) I was not pregnant. That's always a bonus.

The kids got up in the morning & into their costumes to celebrate Halloween at school. Sam was the red ninja, Kai, from Lego Ninjago and Juliet was a Halloween fairy/vampire/princess of darkness. We couldn't really decide which one.

It's hard to tell in the picture but her dress was layers of lace & frills and her hat was covered in black glitter & glittery bat stickers with black ribbons hanging from the tip. Her wings were covered in spider webs and her tights were all ripped. She decided not to wear the hat to school and ultimately not at all so that was a useful project. The teeth made it to school but not trick or treating. Also for the night we added some glow-stick earrings.

It was a pretty cold night, like below 5 degrees, which was a total drag because the night before was 18. Go figure. It could have been a lot worse though with rain & wind & anything else Sandy wanted to throw our way but it wasn't. Just cold. We got comfy with tea & blankets and had a steady supply of hot chocolate to keep us going. The kids did so much running on & off the wagon that we didn't have to worry about them getting cold. Evidently trick or treating has become some sort of high paced action/adventure game where you have to be the first in & first out. There's no such thing as walking.

They insisted on bringing pillow cases this year because last year their bags were "too full" so before we left home Sam ripped the pillow case off of his pillow in a fury of excitement. Couldn't even stand to wait for me to hand him a case from the closet. I got a ton of great photos from the night and it's always so hard to just choose a few. So I didn't. And I'll let them tell the rest of the story.

By the end of the night the kids hauled in a ton of candy and were very pleased with their score. A real diabetic nightmare.
I don't know why it looks like Sam has twice as much. He was a ninja so he must have been sneaky. Oh well the less candy for Juliet the better. When we got home our neighbours had some special treats for the kids. They are always thinking about Juliet & her diabetes so instead of candy Juliet got a skeleton doll from one neighbour and pencil crayons from another. Pretty awesome. Even Sofie got some treats.
I'm glad it's over. It's such a time consuming event with decorations & costumes & bla bla bla. It's all worth it though. I guess it's time to starting thinking about next year...
